Taverna Agàpe

Really disappointed with the service. Went as a couple and immediately felt hostility from our server. My partner made a mistake and tried to change her main meal order about 10 seconds after ordering. Flat out no from the waiter that she couldn’t change the order and rather aggressive and then the server stormed around for the rest of the meal and ruined it. Entrees were ok (not great) but pasta was nice. Never really had such a bad server experience (Old man in glasses and white t shirt was the hostile server) everyone else was lovely. May be an off day?

We were greeted very nicely by staff, put in our drink orders and from there everything went down hill. The bread served to us was hard and dry. It tasted at least a day old. The ravioli was undercooked and sauce over salted. The veal scallopini was fair at best but the mashed potatoes served alongside did not taste fresh. The rigatoni with oxtail was below fair - the oxtail ragu was grizzly with a lot of fat and the pasta also undercooked. Al dente is one thing, but this was 1-2 minutes under Al dente. While we attempted to eat this sad meal, the waiter came over to our table to take a photo of a group of people at another table next to ours and nearly had his elbows in our plates. It was incredibly unprofessional. We are all for people documenting their memories but the waiter could have taken a different angle without rudely interrupting our meal. Also, the restaurant had some incense burning in the basket of a bicycle. At first, we thought the bicycle was on fire but then overheard it was incense, which reminded us of a funeral. As a world traveller who enjoys and appreciates different cuisines & cultures, this experience was a straight miss.

I love this place! I try to come here every time I come to Rome. It is in such a quiet quaint neighborhood off the beaten path and the service and the food is outstanding. It has yet to disappoint. I have such fond memories of every meal.

The food is always delicious, and the service is always gracious. Tonight we had Carlos again and it was such a treat! This is one of my favorite go-to places in Rome for 4 years and counting!

Traditional Roman cuisine, beautifully presented, and delicious! We opted for antipasto, followed by primo pasta selections. In place of dessert, we both chose the raddichio/pear/gorgonzola salad. Taverna Agàpe had a nicely priced selection of wines-by-the-glass, too. We lingered over this delightful meal for more than 90 minutes, savoring every mouthful! This was our first visit to this wonderful oasis in Rome’s central tourist district. It will not be our last!
